The May2025 Book of the Month is Attached: The New Science of Adult Attachment and How it Can Help You Find - and Keep - Love by Amir Levine, M.D., and Rachel S.F. Heller, M.A. This book was first published in 2010 and still serves as an easy-to-understand and practical guide to understanding attachment styles.
From the back cover: “Is there a scientific explanation for why some people seem to navigate relationships effortlessly, while others struggle? According to psychiatrist and neuroscientist Dr. Amir Levine and psychologist Rachel Heller, the answer is a resounding ‘yes.’ In Attached, Levine and Heller reveal how an understanding of adult attachment - the most advanced relationship science in existence today - can help us find and sustain love. The field of attachment posits that each of us behaviors in relationships in one of three distinct ways: anxious, avoidant, and secure.”
It’s important to note that attachment theory changes based on new research and understanding through time. Some recent theories propose framing attachment to incorporate a more systemic approach to include other contexts, such as one’s friendships, living situation, local community, national political climate, and global economy.
Attached still remains relevant, approachable, and a great primer for diving into attachment styles and getting to know yourself better.
